RECAP of ACHEMT ANNUAL MEETING & F2F PANEL -
ADDRESSING DETERMINANTS, DISPARITIES AND INEQUITIES IN HEALTHCAre.
The room was buzzing at the Meharry Medical College Cal Turner Family Center for Student Education on Oct. 12 as a three-member panel discussed with a group of more than 50 ACHEMT participants the impact their individual organizations are making to address determinants, disparities and inequities in healthcare in Nashville and surrounding areas.

Moderator David Weil, JD, MBA ,aptly guided an intriguing discussion with panel members Charae Farmer-Dixon, DDS; Joseph Webb, D.Sc., MSHA, FACHE; and Charlie Apigian, PhD.

Dr. Farmer-Dixon, Dean of the Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry, highlighted her organization's and others work in providing dental services to rural counties via a clinic on wheels, strategically placed clinics, and advocacy work on TNCare dental coverage expansion. In addition, Dental Days have been hosted that attract between 500 - 600 patients in need of dental services.
Charlie Apigian, Phd, Executive Director of the Belmont University Data Collaborative, discussed the importance of quality data collection and data sharing to find long-lasting healthcare solutions in the disparity and inequity space.

Dr. Joseph Webb brought the group back to the fundamentals of healthcare change. He highlighted the Triple Aim for optimizing the healthcare industry's performance through intentional and continued focus on:
- The health of our population
- The experience of care for individuals within our population
- The per capita cost of providing that care
Finally, Dr. Webb referenced the importance of quality and business improvement frameworks implemented in healthcare organizations to drive our continued pursuit of excellence. Dr. Webb mentioned the Baldrige Framework as a path to healthcare evolution. The Baldrige Performance Excellence Framework helps empower organizations through rigorous self-evaluation and self-improvement to reach its goals and improve results. It incorporates proven practices on current leadership and management issues into a set of questions that help holistically manage all aspects of an organization.
The seven categories of performance that Baldrige includes as key focus areas are (1) Leadership; (2) Strategy; (3) Customers, (4) Measurement, Analysis, and Knowledge Management; (5) Workforce; (6) Operations; and (7) Results.
Overall, the meeting was well attended and considered a huge success. Many thanks to the event organizers.
